As a homemaker, keeping Christ at the center of our home is one of the most important things to me. Without the Holy Spirit guiding us in what should be our sanctuary, life often feels much more chaotic than it needs to. With three kids—an 8-year-old, a 6-year-old with autism, and a nearly 1-year-old—my hands are always full! But with a Christ-centered home, we find strength to face life’s challenges together. Here are five daily habits that help keep our home filled with faith. I hope these spark inspiration for you, too!

1. Pray Over Your Home

Nearly every day, I pray over my children and husband, asking for peace, patience, and loving guidance. For us parents, starting the day with prayer can be incredibly grounding. Take a moment in the morning to pray for patience and strength. Need ideas? Check out 5 Simple Ways to Pray Over Your Home for easy ways to incorporate prayer into your daily routine.

2. Find Gratitude in the Little Things

It’s not always easy, but counting blessings can shift your focus from stress to gratitude. On tough days, when the house is messy, and I’m juggling everything, I pause to thank God for my beautiful, healthy children and the comfort of our home. I also practice gratitude in the evening; it helps me sleep more peacefully, releasing worries about what didn’t get done. Dive deeper into this habit in Finding Gratitude in the Little Things.

3. Remove Distractions and Embrace Minimalism

For me, clutter is a major source of distraction. Embracing minimalism has helped ease that burden. Simplifying our home reduces decision fatigue and stress. Jesus encourages us in Matthew 6:25 not to worry about what we’ll eat, drink, or wear, so we plan meals intentionally and keep only what we need. Try setting aside quiet time without the TV or background noise for a few minutes of prayer or Bible study. Even 15 minutes can create a calming space in a busy day.

4. Read, Learn, and Memorize Scripture as a Family

Memorizing Scripture together as a family can be fun and helps build a strong foundation in faith for kids. Consider games to engage your children—our family loves playing Bible trivia! Here are some that we’re excited to try:

These verses inspire us to prioritize God’s word:

  • Deuteronomy 11:18-19
  • Colossians 3:16
  • Proverbs 7:3

5. Play Gospel Music Throughout Your Home

Gospel music fills our home with peace and joy. I especially love to play it while I’m cleaning, which makes it feel more like an act of worship. For mornings, consider incorporating kid-friendly gospel music. We use Minno, a subscription with Bible-based shows and music for kids. I’m not by any means sponsored by them but it’s been a game-changer! Of course, you can also find some fun kids worship music on YouTube as well.

I hope these ideas help inspire you to create a Christ-centered atmosphere in your home. When Jesus is at the heart of our daily lives, our homes become more peaceful, cozy, and secure.
